FAQs

Our team is committed to providing you with highest standard of professional care. Below are answers to just a few questions frequently asked, however please feel free to call our office at 925-248-2482 to ask our knowledgeable team any question you might have regarding your endodontic care.

Modern science has advanced the technology of endodontics to the point where procedures are typically comfortable with the use of modern anesthetic techniques. We are committed to providing the highest quality of care available in a relaxed atmosphere of consideration, concern and comfort. We are experts in local anesthesia and will put every effort to ensure your comfort during your visit to our office. After the treatment there may be some sensitivity or discomfort with your tooth for a few days. In addition your tooth may be tender to touch or to bite on for 1-2 weeks. It is not unusual for your tooth to feel different for some time after the treatment is completed, however if you have severe pain or pressure please contact our office.

You do not need a referral to see our Endodontist. However, most patients are referred by their general dentist to our office. Typically it is best if you are seeing a general dentist and have a treatment plan established for your overall dental health. Or we can recommend you a general dentist after the completion of root canal treatment.

Most root canal treatments are completed in a single appointment.  However there are exceptions such as highly infected teeth are often fully instrumented on a first visit and have an anti-microbial paste placed within the tooth to allow thorough disinfection prior to filling the root canal on the second, shorter visit. This second-level disinfection process helps insure success, and minimizes the likelihood that any further treatment will be needed.

When your root canal treatment has been completed, a report and x-ray of your completed treatment will be sent to your referring general dentist along with findings and any future recommendations. We ask that you schedule an appointment with your general dentist as soon as possible if your tooth requires a filling, crown or additional dental procedures. Your general dentist will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth. A crown is a very popular and appropriate option.
